"The education I received at St. Rose-McCarthy prepared me well for high school at San Joaquin Memorial, both in values and what is expected academically. One example was the school-wide learning expectations at St. Rose McCarthy; San Joaquin Memorial has similar standards.
It was a busy first year at San Joaquin Memorial. I made many new friends and great memories. I joined a few clubs and became a homeroom representative for my freshman class. As a student who enjoyed participating in school Mass on Fridays at St. Rose-McCarthy, I was happy to know that San Joaquin Memorial had monthly Masses. I have enjoyed singing and being a part of the SJM School Mass Band.
Some other highlights from this year include being a part of the valley and league champions Girls Golf Team, and joining the Chemistry and Math Clubs. I enjoyed getting to be a part of the SJM Math Team where we placed second overall in the Medium Schools Division at the Fresno State Math Field Day.
The spring semester was very busy; I participated in the Miss Kings County Outstanding Teen competition. Thanks to all of the St. Rose-McCarthy School talent shows, I was confident and excited to perform on stage and speak in public. I was surprised to learn I was the recipient of the Soroptimist’s Volunteer in Action Award. I was able to share part of the proceeds of my award with a charity of my choice, the St. Vincent de Paul Center in Hanford. I participated in the California State Science Fair for the fourth year in a row, and averaged a 3.28 GPA for my freshman year.
Looking back it was a very busy year. I am thankful for the opportunity to continue my Catholic education. I can't wait to see what this year has in store for me at San Joaquin Memorial while I prepare for the SAT and the ACT."
